17th Century Remnant

Here is something I've discovered today. It is a very old synagogue.
The sign says it was built between 1670 and 1671 and that it was the first synagogue in Romania. As you can see, it is now being restored.
It is located in one of the old neighborhoods of the city, close to the center.

  2. Beautiful set of photos. I know something about the 1941 Iasi pogrom, so it is very interesting that this synagogue survived and is being restored.

  5. It's a national treasure for Romania. All Romanians should be proud. Perhaps jews of Moldavian and Romanian descent should make the visit one summer. The shul in Bucharest is very nice also but Iasi is by far the most historical.
